Dear Honored Grandchildren: I treasure the memories of my time with you in Santa Fe and listening to your diverse points of view, some of which differed from mine. Of course some of mine differed from yours, and you were so respectful, nonetheless. Remember that all of you are knowledge keepers in your respective spheres of work and life. It was difficult for me to let you go and see you return to your work and homes located in the four directions. I knew in my heart, however, that as we sat in dialogue, we had created a new, loving, and lasting family. We left Bishop's Lodge renewed and open to new ways of knowing. I hope what Rose and the other members of the Native Academy so generously shared with you has been of benefit to you as you continue your journey of life. As your ceremonial grandmother, I was privileged to teach many lessons, but to me the most important is learning or continuing to think with both the heart and the mind. Just as critical is knowing that we live in a relational world and we have to remember to live as sacred relatives to all that is, which includes our relations the moon, sun, and stars. These are basic lessons a grandmother teaches a child. You are the children and grandchildren of my heart and spirit, and I wish you well in all that you are and in all that you do. Now that we are contemplating seeing one another again, I look forward to again greeting each of you. Just think we can once again sit as family and discuss important things about being human and being the best we can possibly be so that each of us can help create a world of goodness so that all our relations too can live as family in a peaceful and respectful world. I look to you to help in this great creation. I look
forward to seeing you brilliant children converge upon the sacred center
with the same open hearts and minds which makes you unique. Via technology,
I send you the gift of love, good wishes, and much joy. Remember to drink
plenty of water and to help keep it pure for the infinite number of
generations ahead. |
